As I’ve had the “It’s My Life”/”Confessions” mash-up from Glee stuck in my head for the past two days, it’s safe to say that Fox’s new series is clearly becoming one of my favorite TV obsessions as of late. For those of you who are with me up on the Glee bandwagon, you might be interested to learn that Joss Whedon is set to direct an episode later this season.
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello posted the news, stating that Whedon (creator of Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and Firefly, to name a few) will direct one of the back nine episodes of the series. What does this mean for Dollhouse? According to Ausiello, Whedon will likely direct the Glee episode after production is wrapped on the remaining episodes of the 13-ep order for Dollhouse. It's always exciting when two fandoms collide (especially when you're a fan of both subjects involved in the collision). Whedon directed a couple of episodes of The Office (“Branch Wars” and “Business School) and if you didn’t already know he was the man calling the shots for those episodes, there wasn’t anything in particular that would’ve tipped you off. This is a credit to the Whedon’s skill as a director, as he kept true to the series with his direction and delivered two episodes that fit seamlessly into their seasons. I’m sure the same will be said for his episode of Glee and his contribution to the show will be memorable. It’s doubtful that the musical aspect of the series will be an issue for him. Whedon’s no stranger to the genre. The “Once More with Feeling” musical episode of Buffy is easily one of the best episodes of the series and Dr. Horrible webseries was a stroke of evil, musical genius. So kudos to 20th Century Fox for getting Whedon’s talent on board with Glee, if only for one episode. |
