Justin Bieber Reportedly Confirmed To Host Saturday Night Live In February - UPDATED
From what's being reported, it looks like Justin Bieber is next in line among the musicians who have served as host and musical guest in an episode of Saturday Night Live, joining the ranks of Bruno Mars, Mick Jagger, Taylor Swift and Elton John. The teen heartthrob hinted in a Tweet yesterday that he might be hosting SNL, "maybe." And today comes further confirmation that we'll be seeing the Biebs on the late night sketch comedy series.
The pop singer tweeted the following yesterday:
Hardly official confirmation, especially when you factor in the two maybes, but today Billboard confirms that their source says Bieber will be hosting and serving as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on February 9. NBC has not posted anything official confirming this news, but assuming this is set in stone, we should be hearing official word soon enough.
The next new episode of SNL is set for January 19, with The Hunger Games (or more recently, Silver Linings Playbook) Jennifer Lawrence set to host and the Lumineers serving as musical guest. The week after that (January 26), Maroon 5's Adam Levine will host, with Kendrick Lamar performing as the musical guest. Assuming Billboard's info is accurate, that leaves the week between Levine's episode and Bieber's still open, either for a rerun or for a host and musical guest yet to be confirmed.
This would be Bieber's first run as host for the series, and he's certainly among the younger candidates to take on the challenge of live comedy on the long-running series. But he did perform as the musical guest back in 2010, when Tina Fey hosted. He even brought his musical talent to a sketch, which had him serenading Fey's teacher character.
UPDATE - NBC has officially confirmed that Justin Bieber will serve as host and musical guest for the February 9 episode of Saturday Night Live.
