Kat Dennings To Play Waitress In CBS Pilot

Is Kat Dennings a star or a well-regarded supporting actress? I can’t decide. She’s performed well in semi-lead roles like in Charlie Bartlett and Nick And Norah, but in the upcoming Thor, she’s like the eighth lead. It really puts things in perspective when you move up in budgets. Based on what your answer to that original question is, this casting news is either a great opportunity for the twenty-four year old or a reasonable enough next step.

According to Deadline, Dennings has accepted one of the two lead roles in the upcoming Whitney Cummings-penned pilot for CBS. Working on a potential program for the Tiffany network is a bit of a double-edged sword. The channel is easily the best and most efficiently run. That’s good if your show gets picked up, but it makes getting to that timeslot even more difficult.

Two Broke Girls follows a pair of waitresses. The one played by Dennings is decidedly lower class, the other very upperclass and down on her luck. Together, they hone in on a yet to be revealed money-making scheme, but in order to get it off the ground, the girls must raise two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. That’s a lot of start-up money. Maybe they’re building planes or working on cancer research.

Sex And The City showrunner Michael Patrick King is also on board; so, expect the final product to be well put together. One should expect the other lead to be cast shortly. I’m hoping for Superbad’s Martha MacIsaac, but I have no evidence whatsoever to support this.
