Things are looking even brighter for the next season of 24. The show is set to take place in New York, for one thing and CTU will be back, for another but neither of those little tidbits is news for anyone keeping up with the info about next season. No, today’s exciting 24 Season 8 update is that Katee Sackhoff has been cast in a role as a series regular!

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Ausiello, his sources say Sackhoff has been brought on board to play the role of Dana Walsh, a “highly respected and down-to-earth data analyst at the new and improved New York branch of CTU. Sackhoff’s character will be in a relationship with fellow agent Davis Cole played by recently cast Freddie Prinze Jr. Ausiello also reported that Dana Walsh has some big secret she’s trying to keep secret. Don’t they all at CTU at one point or another?

Katee Sackhoff has popped up in a number of series since (and during) her role as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the popular Sci Fi show Battlestar Galactica, including the remake of Bionic Woman (cancelled) and a couple of episodes of Nip/Tuck but it’s exciting to see that the former BSG badass/harbinger of death/possible-ghost/angel is taking on a more fixed role in a stable series on network TV. Now about this “data analyst” business. Does this mean she won’t be carrying a gun? Will she at least drink too much and talk down to people? I’d love to see even the slightest trace of the old, self-destructive Starbuck we all knew and loved (or loved to hate, depending on what her story-arc entailed) in Sackhoff's role on 24.
