L.A. Reid is leaving The X Factor. The music mogul plans to stick around until the end of the season and fulfill his contract as a mentor and a judge in Season 2. The CEO and Chairman of Epic Records really enjoys being a judge on the show, but he believes he has been neglecting his business and he needs to return to what he does best.
Reid spoke with Access Hollywood on Thursday to discuss his decision. While the famous music producer is certain he will not return to The X Factor in Season 3, he says he hasn’t ruled out the possibility down the road. Way to keep your options open, L.A.
“I’m not ruling ever coming back, but I’m definitely not coming back next year. I have a job to do and once I get some work done and get some momentum then maybe I’ll revisit the idea a little later.”
While it is a bummer Reid is leaving Fox’s hit singing competition show, it shouldn’t be a surprise. The man has a company to run and plus, he’s been in the music business for the past 20 years, not the TV business. Reid’s a good judge and his presence will be missed in Season 3, but the more interesting question is who the show will hire to fill his shoes. Luckily, Reid has a suggestion.
“You know who I would love to see take it, and by the way I have nothing to do with it, but my choice would be like Jon Bon Jovi. That’s who I would pick.”
As of Season 2, Reid and Simon Cowell were the only two original members of the onstage crew who returned to the show. Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and Steve Jones were all let go to make room for Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Khloe Kardashian, and Mario Lopez. Hopefully, The X Factor’s Season 3 changes will end at Reid (or maybe Khloe Kardashian).
The X Factor airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
