Last week we reported that a deal was in the works to bring the new hit Broadway musical, “Legally Blonde” to television via MTV sometime this fall. It looks like it’s official. The musical version of the story about a seemingly flaky blonde sorority girl getting into Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend will be aired on MTV along with a behind-the-scenes look at the televised production of the Broadway musical later this month.
Legally Blonde is everywhere. It started out as a book by Amanda Brown and was then made into a film starring Reese Witherspoon. In the film, Witherspoon played Elle Woods, a girl who thinks she has everything until her boyfriend dumps her on the night she expected him to propose. After picking up the pieces of her broken heart, Elle decides that in order to win Warner back, she’ll have to head to Harvard and prove to him that she can be the kind of wife he’s looking for. In the process, Elle comes to learn that she’s got more to offer than just great hair and big boobs.
There was a sequel to the film but it really isn’t worth mentioning. Eventually, the story was adapted to a musical, which made its way to Broadway last spring. The televised production of the musical, which currently stars Laura Bell Bundy as Elle, will air on MTV on Saturday, September 29th at 1 p.m. The premiere date is subject to change but as of right now, the production will begin sometime in mid-September.
