MTV Prepping Kinda-Sorta Greg The Bunny Spinoff

MTV Prepping Kinda-Sorta Greg The Bunny Spinoff Greg the Bunny is clearly aiming for some sort of record for most different incarnations on the most different networks. It all started when Sean S. Baker, Spencer Chinoy, and Dan Milano created a half-hour show called Junktape for an NYC cable-access channel. From there, Greg and company hopped over to IFC for a series of segments. In 2002, he hit the big-time with the aptly named Fox sitcom Greg the Bunny, which saw Greg rooming with Seth Green and starring in a children’s show-within-the-show along with a cast of fellow “fabricated Americans.” That incarnation lasted all of 11 episodes (two were shot but not aired), but in 2005 the show returned to IFC for another series of short segments. And now, in 2009, Greg’s heading to MTV. Well, actually, his puppet-y co-star Warren the Ape is, but I wouldn’t rule out a Greg appearance at some point, if he’s available. Last I heard he was doing a six-month stand-up gig for Carnival Cruise Lines.

The Hollywood Reporter says that MTV has ordered a new show that will be just as meta-fictional as Greg the Bunny, casting Warren as an out-of-work actor (and puppet) who signs on to a crappy reality show to try and shore up his career. Sort of like a twisted, postmodern version of The Muppet Show with shittier puppets. Creators Chinoy, Baker, and Milano (who voices Warren) are all signed on for 12 episodes of the show.
