Maura Tierney Leaves NBC's Parenthood For Cancer Treatments
It was reported earlier this year that actress Maura Tierney was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now her fight against the disease is in the news again, as Variety reports Tierney has chosen to leave NBC’s upcoming dramedy Parenthood so that she can focus on her recovery. The show was originally scheduled to premiere this fall, but was pushed back to midseason to give her time to undergo treatments. Unfortunately, those treatments proved to be too difficult to manage on top of the busy production schedule for the show. NBC says her character will be recast, but it isn’t clear yet whether that change will further delay the show.
Tierney is probably best known for her roles as Dr. Abby Lockhart on E.R. and Lisa Miller on NewsRadio. She also appeared in a memorable guest role as Dennis Leary’s new love interest on the just-finished fifth season of Rescue Me. As a cancer survivor myself, I wish Ms. Tierney the best of luck in her recovery.
