Lifetime’s Devious Maids has added two recurring characters to the cast, with the promise that both will likely be promoted to regulars should the show get a second season. Mad Men’s Melinda Page Hamilton and Days of Our Lives’ Matt Cedeno have both come on board the second-chance project that managed to make it.
Devious Maids, based on a Mexican format, started out life as a pilot for ABC. After that network passed on the project, Lifetime stepped in. The pilot is being tweaked and the show has been given a series order for 13 episodes. From Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, the show follows the lives of a group of maids in the rich homes of Beverly Hills who are pursuing their own aspirations and dreams. Already starring in the series are Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez, and Roslyn Sanchez as the title characters. Also on board are soap opera queen Susan Lucci, Grant Show, and Marian Klaveno among others.
The two newly added are both familiar to Marc Cherry as former Desperate Housewives guest stars. Hamilton, who most will remember as the original Mrs. Draper on Mad Men who covers up Don Draper’s big secret, is on board for four episodes as Odessa, a controlling and ruthless housekeeper. Matt Cedeno, who spent 7 years on the long-running soap Days of Our Lives, is set to play Alejandro, a rock star looking to relax after a long tour who is also Odessa’s employer. Both are expected to appear in the pilot, according to Deadline. There’s no premiere date yet, but we will see the show sometime in 2013.
