Moment Of Truth Host Says He Was Begging Contestant To Stop

By Kelly West: 2008-02-26 21:12:29
Moment Of Truth Host Says He Was Begging Contestant To Stop If you caught last night’s episode of the new game show, Moment of Truth then you surely saw what happened when contestant Lauren was asked some questions about her marriage. Things didn’t go so well for her (or her husband) and tonight, Access Hollywood spoke with Moment of Truth host, Mark L. Walberg about the episode.

Before we get to that though, let’s recap for those of you who missed the episode: The way Moment of Truth works is, before sitting across from the host on stage the contestant answers a bunch of questions while hooked up to a polygraph. Then Walberg asks the contestant whatever questions the producers selected of the questions the contestant was asked. The contestant will answer yes or no to the questions and if their answer matches what the polygraph determined, they advance further in the game. If they refuse to answer a question or their answer conflicts with what the polygraph determined, they get nothing.

Oftentimes the contestant’s family is present while the questions are being asked and on occasion, someone the contestant knows will ask the actual question, thus heightening the intensity of the show. There’s a lot of build-up with intense music and dramatic pauses thrown in to keep the rounds interesting. After watching an episode or two of this show, I decided that it made me feel more uncomfortable than entertained so I gave it up.

Anyway, apparently on last night’s episode, Lauren, a married twenty-something, was asked a couple of questions regarding her feelings about her ex-boyfriend and her faithfulness to her husband, who was sitting nearby watching as the show was being taped. Not only did Lauren admit some things that surely put her marriage in jeopardy, but she also ended up not winning any money because one of her answers conflicted with the polygraph.

Here’s part of the episode:

When Walberg talked to Access Hollywood about it tonight, he made mention of the fact that the contestants know the questions before they get onto the stage, so it’s not like they’re surprised by the questions. But he seemed to have a hard time understanding why Lauren went forward with the questions, saying, “I don’t have any problem of the fairness aspect of it. I have a problem with her judgment of then choosing to do it.” Walberg went on to say, “I know people are going to think I was BS-ing but the truth is, I was begging her to stop.”

Here’s the thing. The show is designed to be a trainwreck, right? I mean they’re not going to have contestants on there that have nothing to hide. After a quick peek at Wikipedia’s Moment of Truth page, I noted that in the first handful of episodes that have aired, no one’s gotten past the $100,000 mark. The grand prize is $500,000. So if the questions are already getting into seriously life-altering territory at the $100k mark, what kinds of questions are being saved for the final round? And if Walberg was telling the truth when he said he wanted Lauren to stop, how’s he going to manage it when a contestant does inevitably make it to that final round?

What do you think about Moment of Truth? Are you totally hooked on it or does the series make you feel too uncomfortable to be entertained?

  1. B Diddy Says:

BOYCOTT this gawd-awful crap. Does anyone care about the negative impact this is having on the contestants and their families? "Do you think you're a good person?" This girl is going to need a shrink after this show!!!

  1. mike Says:

I hope the husband, a New York City cop, has the balls to actually dump this slut!!!

  1. alberto Says:

THIS SHOW IS SO ADDICTIVE. I was reeling at the antics of this woman, but I understand her. It seems she wanted her marraige to end. Its just sad for the poor guy that now everyone knows what kind of a jerk he married. he seems like such a nice guy too...tsktsk

  1. Hannah Says:

This show is not much better than Jerry Springer. If she knew the questions she was going to be asked before the actual show is filmed, then why would she choose this forum to tell her husband the truth? I know you say this stuff is not fake, but her husband was sure accepting at the end of the show when he walked to her and hugged her. I guess he was able to take it better than I would if I and America was just told my husband cheated on me and would rather be married to someone else. What a glutton for punishment!

  1. Crystal Says:

I dont think this show should go on any longer its degrading but honestly this guy needed to here the stuff she was saying but damn if she wanted to tell him ... go on jerry springer she knew what they were gonna ask her so there fore she knew what was to come

  1. firestorm Says:

    America Must Be Destroyed

  1. Kunaal Says:

Corporate America - will you sell your mother, your soul and your dignity for money?

    Yes.

(And the answer is ............... TRUE)

  1. Stuart Says:

They ban and fine people up the wazoo over a nipple peek.

But THIS qualifies as prime-time "entertainment".

    Sickening.

  1. Brent Says:

This host is making a pathetic attempt at redeeming his sense of character by claiming to have 'begged the contestant to stop'. It was equally laughable to watch his little 'Jerry Springer-style' recap at the end. The only real truth here is that the host has absolutely no moral compass whatsoever. I have enjoyed this show up until now, but I am now done with this garbage and will start watching something else.

  1. Steve Says:

ohhh boo freakin hoo. It's about time scumy people were made an example of. This is not a good person, this is a moron that has finally been found out. She ruined her marriage for money and fame and you people actually wan't me to feel sorry for her? Stupid is as stupid does...remember that quote? well here it is in living color and for the rest of this dim-wits life she will be branded as a cheat, a whore and an idiot...wanna know why? Because she is all of those things and more. The only person to feel sorry for is the husband. He ought to recieve something for his time, but she gets exactly what she deserves. You freakin hippie degenerate morons have flushed this country away as is by pushing what has been considered wrong for thousands of years in our face and telling us it is now acceptable, but this bothers you? The idocracy in this country has hit an all time ammusing state

  1. Robin Says:

Everyone...and I mean everyone has a secret to tell...(or keep to themselves for that matter)....I do watch the show, but would never be a contestant on it...First of all, the pyramid of winnings is not worth it at all, you have to answer five questions just to get to $10,000...and it's not worth losing someone over...Although, I do believe we should all be honest with our relationships/families.....but let's be honest here, we all have secrets and things that we keep to ourselves...right?....I'm thinking she just kept going because she knew she would need the money for legal fee's if she got a divorce....and the fact that infidelity/adultery was an issue..

  1. Sam Z Says:

When i saw this video it hit me harder than 2 girls 1 cup... and if lauren cleri doesnt know what it is, let me just tell her she reminds me of the cup.. exactly shes full of sh**.
That NYPD guy can do much better, he did the right thing in cheering her on, making and making her continue. After he got the cash he should have divorced her and get most of the cash during court and he would have been left with a mill and she would be left with her X-boyfriend and shameful fame kinda like britney spears but much more cheating slutty and wh** like.

  1. suze Says:

I just find it really sad that she needed the cash so badly for herself or her family that she was willing to publicly degrade herself to this extent on TV in front of her family and friends knowing the questions and answers she gave.

  1. Paul Says:

This country is rotting within when shows like this is a form of entertainment, all the immorality in this country mirrors exactly the fall of the Roman Empire. When are we going to wake up???????

  1. Emily Says:

I love this show so much. I don't see why you people have a problem with it. If these people are going on the show knowing what could happen, then let 'em. If their marriages/relationships/lives are ruined because of it, but they got a hunk of cash out of it, that's their problem.

Let the doors of these people's closets be held wide open for all of America to peer inside! Let's see just how many skeletons are in them! I may just expose some of my own some time in the future...
