Moore Offers New Clues About Battlestar Galactica

Moore Offers New Clues About Battlestar Galactica If you’re like me, one of the things you’ve been looking forward to most about 2008 is the premiere of the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica. It feels like its been forever since we got any new information about the series. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we finally have a few exciting tidbits to mull over for the next few months. If you don’t want to know any spoilers about the upcoming season of BSG, read no further!

In this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, the magazine included the picture in our image gallery below this article, spread across two pages. BSG exec-producer Ron Moore was nice enough to offer EW readers a little clue about each of the people listed in the photo. The juiciest clue was for #10. As you can see in the photo, there is an empty space there. Moore brought up the fact that they haven’t revealed the final Cylon yet. EW’s Adam V. Vary responded by asking, “Does that mean the people already at the table aren’t the final Cylon?” To this, Moore said, “You ferreted that out pretty slyly. I didn’t really want to give that away.” I guess that means that we can deduce that Starbuck, Lee, Baltar, Roslin, Adama and Helo are not going to be revealed as the fifth Cylon.

In case you noticed the extra Six in the photo (#2), that’s Natalie. According to Moore, she’s another version of Six who will play a role in the new season as a Cylon who is leading other Cylons with a separate agenda from the rest of the toasters. Moore also made mention of Caprica-Six’s center spot, saying, “Baltar’s Six has proclaimed that she is delivering the gospel of the [Cylons] one true god, so it seemed natural to place her at the center of the photo.”

You’ll also note that Helo and Sharon are giving someone to the right of them the stink-eye. Moore wouldn’t say who it was they were looking at but he did say that “the person they’re looking at is definitely reacting.” As for Starbuck and Anders, Moore pointed out that while Kara's return to life and Anders' finding out he’s a Cylon definitely complicates their relationship, it should be noted that Anders is the only one embracing Kara. So does this mean that he’s the only one who trusts her or is happy to have her back? It would explain why it looks like she’s been tossed in a cell in this trailer for the new season.

For the full article check out Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue. It’s the one with Matthew Fox on the cover.

Dualla's a skin job! She's the last Cylon!

If no one's noticed, they've taken some care to make Baltar into a Christ-like figure. At the end of season three, he was basically on trial for the sins of the human race. He certainly looked like Christ—or at least the public image of Christ. He supposedly healed a child with his prayer. Now the studio is coming out with posters resembling the Last Supper. Interesting, for sure. What about the 12 human-like cylons? Could they be Baltar's "disciples?" Curious that there's such a thing as a resurrection ship cruising around the galaxy.

My speculation is that Baltar is somehow linked to the person responsible for either creating the cylons or advancing their evolution. I'm guessing Baltar's direct progenitor was one who looked just like him (i.e. his father made him in his image—God the father and God the son). I don’t think Baltar is a cylon, exactly, but more of a clone of the cylon architect. This explains why Baltar has special knowledge of cylon technology (I think this was mentioned in the mini series). I also think Baltar’s father (for lack of a better term) created Caprica 6 just for him. She was his ideal woman. This also explains why both Caprica 6 and Baltar have visions of each other.

What does it mean? I think Baltar’s father has been to Earth and has acquired an appreciation of 1) Hendrix/Dylan and 2) the Christian faith. This father returned to the BSG sector of the galaxy to deify himself and his soon-to-be-created son by creating a race of cylons. I think this mysterious architect figure wants to be worshipped as the one god by both the cylons and the humans. I think, in his mind, Hera and other cylon-human children will serve to unite the races (as marriages have historically between various countries). Baltar will be the conductor that unites all of the notes (i.e. skinjobs) into a symphony.
