Things are looking good for the half-hour sitcom this season. Two freshman series, Back to You and Samantha Who? are going to be sticking around for a little longer. E!Online is reporting that Back to You, the local-news sitcom starring comedy heavyweights Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammar, has received an order for 11 more episodes. This order, combined with what they’ve already shot, gives the show a full 24-episode season.
While the amnesia-comedy Samantha Who? has yet to receive its full-season pickup, ABC has ordered six more scripts of the Christina Applegate sitcom. This order combined with its huge ratings (14 million viewers a week!) means that unless something goes horribly wrong, a full-season announcement for this quirky comedy is inevitable. I miss sitcoms, so I consider this good news. There has been a dearth of quality ones ever since the untimely demise of Arrested Development (which, I of course have to mention. Always.). Since then, we’ve been given The Office and 30 Rock, but those are both on Thursdays, so it kind of leaves the rest of the week open. This season, however, I’ve been giving some of the newer sitcoms a chance, and I must say, I haven’t been disappointed. I’ve been watching Samantha Who?, and while it’s starting out a little awkward, once it gains its footing, I’m confident it will turn into a pretty great show. The pilot for Back to You was pretty cheesy, but having worked in local news, there were some moments I found really funny in a “this makes me uncomfortable because I know people just like this” kind of way. Even The Big Bang Theory, which has also been given a full-season, has garnered some laugh-out-loud moments and is a great show to have on in the background while you’re home working on other things. Before any of you jump on my case, I will say that I’ve just started watching How I Met Your Mother, and I get it now. It’s kind of great. Back To You airs Wednesdays at 8 PM on Fox. Samantha Who? Airs Mondays at 9:30 on ABC. |
