NBC Picks Up The Sing Off For A Second Season
Last December NBC debuted a mini-season of a singing competition featuring a capella singing groups. It seems the network was happy enough with the ratings for the show that they’ve decided to bring it back for another season.
Hosted by Nick Lachey, The Sing Off was a four-episode series that featured a cappella groups who competed against one another to show off their musical abilities. With performances done without the aid of musical instruments, the series showcased the a cappella genre, which based on the groups featured in the show suits people with musical talent of all ages and walks of life. The winning group from the first season was Nota, a group of Puerto Rican men. The strong voice of their leading man and their ability harmonize well and adapt popular music to an a cappella arrangement certainly aided in their victory.
TV Guide confirmed that NBC has given the series the green light for a second season. No premiere date is set as of yet, nor did TV Guide post any information on whether or not Lachey will be returning to host the series. I do hope they can get Ben Folds back to judge. His honest but friendly criticism and advice on the groups performances added a lot to the show as it gave viewers (and the contestants) a better understanding of the genre as a whole.
