NBC Renews Law & Order: SVU, Picks Up Dick Wolf's Chicago Fire
After Chris Meloni failed to figure out an acceptable contract to continue his work on Law & Order: SVU, I thought for certain the NBC series was doomed. However, Dick Wolf’s program features some avid workers who were on the ball with promotional videos when Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish’s characters were introduced this fall. Despite lower ratings than normal, with Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T on the bill for next year, a renewal was pretty much expected for the veteran drama.
Today, that renewal came through. Law & Order: SVU will be back for a fourteenth season and, as usual, Ice-T was more than happy to share the news with the universe in an unconventional way.
“SUPER EXCLUSIVE NEWS: SVU has officially been renewed for season #14. Tell a hater.”
Dick Wolf should be having a pretty damn good day, because of SVU’s triumphant return and because Deadline is reporting NBC is also giving Wolf Film’s Chicago Fire a go, giving the pilot a series order. If you haven’t been privy to information on Chicago Fire yet, the ensemble drama will feature firefighters and paramedics living and working in the heart of Chicago. With the pick-up, I am super pleased to see The Good Wife’s Monica Raymond getting some work.
On another note, I wonder if NBC has plans to just do a “Dick Wolf Night” or if the network will spread the love over a couple of nights?
