With its fate still in the air, ’30 Rock’ just got a stay of execution with NBC ordering three more scripts for the Thursday night comedy. The peacock network is playing it safe despite a powerful cast with creator and star Tina Fey (of ‘Saturday Night Live’) and Alec Baldwin (formerly of ‘Will and Grace, and how could we forget, Beetle Juice), having only opted for three scripts last month as well.

In total, ‘30’ has baby-stepped to six new scripts in total, and appears to be teeter-tottering on the edge of the chopping block. Though critically praised in its debut as a funny behind the scenes look at a late night comedy sketch show, Tina Fey’s first producers credit hasn’t quite captured the audience execs hoped for. TV.com reports that after the show averaged 5.2 million viewers last week, the network moved the show from Wednesday to Thursday nights at 9:30 PM ET.

Meanwhile, despite initial struggles, NBC’s two other freshman shows, ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’ (Mondays at 10 PM ET) and ‘Friday Night Lights’ (Tuesdays at 8 PM ET) have both been picked up for full seasons. Check out clips of ‘30 Rock’ here.
