NBC To Cancel Crossing Jordan And Black Donnellys

By Steve West: 2007-05-11 16:23:34

NBC To Cancel Crossing Jordan And Black Donnellys Starting next week we’ll be getting tons of info from the networks on what new children will be added to the family, and which ones are going to have a happy home for another season. Because it’s Friday and I don’t want to bring anyone down, let’s just pretend that the rest of the story about some cancelled NBC shows is positive for everyone. If you’re a fan of ‘Crossing Jordan’ or ‘The Black Donnelly’s’ look at this as an opportunity for your favorite writers and actors to expand their repertoire.

We reported earlier that ‘Friday Night Lights’ has nearly made the cut for a sophomore year. Unfortunately the Aaron Sorkin dramedy ‘Studio 60’ has not held up in the ratings department. According to the New York Times, after a questionable hiatus the series will be cancelled by NBC. Rumors of the shows faulty footing crossed our desks way back when, but there was always the chance NBC could make room for the series. With so many new dramas joining the NBC lineup, and no comedies as of right now, it looks like ‘Studio’ wasn’t a strong enough contender. Also joining the cut list is ‘The Black Donnelly’s.’ As a semi-interesting series about an Irish mob family that was a messy and watered down version of the same story told better in film, it’s no surprise the show isn’t being picked up. Finally in the drama department, ‘Crossing Jordan’ is bowing out after this year.

It’s also time for us to say goodbye to Dr. Dorian and his wacky daydreams. ‘Scrubs,’ which has always teetered on the edge of cancellation, is finally calling it a day. Honestly, it really is time. Braff isn’t completely on board with coming back, and even if he were the show has run it’s course. What was once the funniest half-hour on network television is now a shadow of it’s former self. ’30 Rock’ and ‘The Office,’ which have both been picked up by the peacock, have outshined the medical comedy in every way this season.

That’s it for right now folks. Tune in next week as we bring you the fullest coverage of the network Upfronts TV Blend has ever done. Enjoy your weekend, and sorry for your loss ‘Studio 60’ fans.

UPDATE

Other outlets are reporting that 'Scrubs' is not yet on the chopping block. Unfortunately there is no official word from NBC until the Upfronts, so until we have definite confirmation either way 'Scrubs' is being moved to the "unclear future" column here at TV Blend.

Here's a non in-depth look at the situation as it stands now. ABC Studios, which puts together the show, has given a green light for 18 more episodes. However, with the high cost and low yield of the program, NBC has unofficially picked it up with a question mark still hovering over the show. The Hollywood Reporter is stating that ABC is once again looking at taking on the medical comedy if NBC steps away. In all honesty I'm not sure NBC will pick the show back up, but for now we know nothing other than a partial season has been approved to go ahead. We'll have definitive answers next week either way.

  1. mirador1987 Says:

what is your source for scrubs getting cancelled as there are many very reliable yet unconfirmed sources saying nbc will renew scrubs for an 18 episode season 7. these 'rumours' have emerged within the last hour

  1. Agent Michael Scarn Says:

Scrubs was renewed, according to The Hollywood Reporter, TV Guide & E!

  1. Steve Says:

Sources are cited in the article and linked to.

Thanks for the heads up guys, the story has been updated with the latest info.

  1. Eric Says:

Zach Braff is completely interested in a 7th season of Scrubs. His Myspace page, which is actually run by him, had a blog entry confirming his interest.

  1. Jonathan Says:

:( The Black Donnellys was the best!
I really hope it gets picked up by another network.
    Long Live Joey Icecream!

  1. Amanda Says:

Such a pity about Crossing Jordan. It deserved at least one more season!

  1. Victor Says:

It makes me mad about Crossing Jordan. This was a great show and it really deserve to go another season since this one came in so late. And the previews said that it was the "season" finale, and not the series finale. I personally think that it can make it another season.

  1. CHERYL Says:

BEGAN WATCHING CROSSING JORDON AFTER 2ND SEASON BUT WAS IMMEDIATELY HOOKED. HATE TO THINK IS OVER.

  1. Maura Says:

NBC needs to save the Donnellys...what a great show. I cannot believe they tried to replace it with that horrendous Wedding Crashers show--what was that about?!

  1. Danielle Says:

Crossing Jordan should NOT be cancelled

  1. Anders K Says:

I love the Black Donnellys!! I hope someone else picks it up too.

  1. Kay Says:

Crossing Jordan is an awesome show, it should not be cancelled. I have been a fan of the show for many years. I think the show needs to continue. There are so many story lines left open, ex: Jordan and Woody, Bug and Lily, Nigel and Kate, and Dr. Macy, the fans need to watch and see how far these stories go.

  1. Steve Says:

Jordan was one of the better dramas on tv. Unfortunately she's part of a dying breed, replaced by the mindless "reality" programs.

  1. Pam Says:

Crossing Jordan, One of the two shows worth watching on NBC, the other being Medium. The big wigs at NBC decide to keep a very tired show like Law & Order add reality "crap" and drop the only show on their network that can compete with other channels shows like CSI. What on earth are you thinking?
Maybe it's time to retire the "old guys" at NBC, hire some young blood and get some actual worth our while programs. Bad Form!!! I hope that it is picked up by another network that will actually promote it and give it the credit it is due.

  1. Teva Says:

CROSSING JORDAN IS MY FAVORITE SHOW AND IT SHOULDN'T BE CANCELLED. NOT ONLY ME, BUT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WILL BE DISSAPOINTED AT NBC FOR CANCELLING THE SHOW. I WILL MILL CROSSING JORDAN DEEPLY. I HOPE IT WILL COME BACK IN THE 2008 FALL LINE-UP. PLEASE DON'T CANCELL CROSSING JORDAN!

  1. Judy Says:

Crossing Jordan is one of the only shows on television worth watching. I have watched for a long time and don't understand why it's being cancelled. All the reality shows are about boring. Please don't cancel Crossing Jordan.

  1. Linda Says:

NBC is making a mistake in cancelling Crossing Jordan. There is clearly enough material for another season - Nigel and Kate's friendship - could it blossom into more; Jordan and Woody - yes, she's finally admitted her love for him but it's still a complex relationship; and Gareett - can they find him a new love interest or anew bureaucratic adversary. And of course it's always about the forensics - so much more to explore there.
They didn't give it a great time slot thhis season and perhaps the actors are feeling a little tired of the series but it really should go out in a blaze of glory in one more season!

  1. Linda Says:

MORE JORDAN -- It was a great show and just wasn't "finished" with the story lines. It is a great interesting and fun show. It deserved an ending more like Friends than what it got. At least maybe one more show that concludes it?? I HATE reality shows and will no longer watch NBC as there are to many "reality" junk shows.

  1. your mom Says:

personally i think its bullshit that the black donnellys got cancelled it was the best show ever after the first episode i was hooked its an amazing show and never should have gotten cancelled. and crossing jordan never should have gotten cancelled either!!

  1. DexterM Says:

It's just wrong. And it's stupid. I mean, OK, I'm only (?) a viewer (You know, this insignificant little thing that's the entire institution of 'television' is there for... ) so I don't really know what the main factors are by which a show's fate is being decided... But I think I figured a small part of it out... Yeah, ratings, ratings... number of viewers, yeah. That. So networks don't give a rat's *ss how a show is recieved, what viewers, or fans feel... how much they LOVE it, how excited they are about it, how GOOD it makes them feel. It doesn't matter. What matters is how many are there. We are numbers, not people. They don't care about what we feel. In fact, if a crappy show has good ratings (and it can, 'coz there are so many dumb people who are easily satisfied with crap), it stays and get renewed over and over again. And it's easier to write, produce and finance crap, than it is to make quality television. And it's cheaper, too. I'll miss Crossing Jordan (and for what it's worth, Veronica Mars, too.)

  1. Karina Says:

Crossing Jordan should not be cancelled! It is the only show I look forward to and always make a point to watch!

  1. jen Says:

Crossing Jordan is the best TV show on right now!! I was disappointed when it didn't start at the beginning of the TV season, I thought it had been cancelled. If they knew they weren't going to renew it, they should have given it a proper sendoff. I wanted to see what would develop between Kate and Nigel because there is definitely some chemistry there. What about Bug and Lily-I love them as a couple. Lily definitely makes Bug happy. Then of course there is Jordan and Woody-Hook them up already!!!! Finally, find someone for Dr. Macy. All that deserves at least one more season.

  1. panoramix47 Says:

I was disappointed about the cancellation of Crossing Jordan; as many other says, the story is not concluded or better is not at an "end point".
I think that the networks pay attention only on the first run of the show. They forget about reruns and, much more, about DVD.
If they think the show is too expensive, they can produce less episodes like other show, but mantain the show "alive". The viewers and the fan could be happy. As somebody says: something is better than nothing.

  1. MAGICKSTER Says:

You can't really be surprised. The 'powers that be' upstairs, rarely consider the opinions and feelings of the viewing public. It's about ratings and money, enough money. Shows like Crossing Jordan may have a following, i am a big fan, but it needs to be biger apparently.
I did, read that the actors filed two finales, one for the end of the season, another if it ended up out to be the series finale. Obviously, seeing as the show has been cancelled, the latter will be shown.
I'm in Australia. I was loking online to see how far we are behind and what has happened in newer eps. I didn't expect to read that it has been cancelled, i think we are more easygoing down here. You don't cancel a popular and lasting show. You especially don't cancel a good show, when other reknewsed shows are gutter-like reality shows, that are carbon copies of each other. Now! That is a silly waste of a time slot.
As long as they end the series appropriately, then, i can't say any more. There is nothing worse when the writers stuff it up and leave viewers with unanswered questions.

    Sincerely,

    Disappointed in Oz.

  1. Kyrie Says:

I am really starting to get aggravated with NBC they always cancel the good shows. What I would like to know is how a show with such a strong backing and fans in the millions and go and become canceled. This was the only REAL show worth watching I hate reality tv but you really get to love the characters. I think that if NBC is going to cancel Crossing Jordan they need to have at least one more season so that we can have some sort of conclusion last weeks cliffhanger left us all with so many questions. It is not fair to the fan base.
This show was the only reason I have Time Warner Cable and my dvr.

  1. Ally Says:

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THEY CANCELLED CROSSING

JORDAN. I LOVED THAT SHOW. BUT I AGREE WITH

EVERYBODY ELSE THERE SHOULD BE AT LEAST ONE

MORE EPISODE TO END THE SEASON. IT CANT BE

    ON A CLIFFHANGER.

  1. Vicki Says:

What are they thinking? Crossing Jordan is one of the best shows on TV. The writers, characters and story lines are great and we have now been left hanging. I really looked forward to my weekly fix and I feel sad.

  1. Sherry Says:

Why would NBC be so foolish to cancel such a quality show like Crossing Jordan? Aren't they trying to get ratings??!! I have watched every episode since season one and love it! It reminds me of the old Quincy show. Please NBC, reconsider and give us at least ONE more season!

  1. Vicki Storrie Says:

I love Crossing Jordan. It is always informative and entertaining. The characters are fascinating, and the story lines are creative. I look forward to watching it every week, and like many viewers, I am anticipating a Kate and Nigel explosion of emotion. Please don't cancel this excellent show.

  1. Mandy Says:

It is such a disappointment to cancel Crossing Jordan. Every week was just something else Jordan did to make it worth watching as well as Nigel and Bug. It was just getting to the next portion of the story line when it was canceled. Some of the other shows that are much more gory and not for children should not be on the schedule as well as a lot of those shows the office and earl and some of the other ones that are reality shows. I really enjoyed watching Crossing Jordan but was truly disappointed when I saw it was canceled. Just when they get good shows on TV, they cancel them later.

  1. Ricky Says:

I was very sad to hear that Crossing Jordan and Studio 60 were being canceled. I loved both shows and TIVOed them when I couldn't be there to watch them in person. As they fill each season with more and more "reality" shows, the less I find myself watching network TV. I really don't care who survives, or is the most popular singer by the vote of the teenage public, or which D list "stars" can or cannot dance ... and I'm not going to start caring simply because there is nothing else on network TV. I will just migrate over to the Discovery Channel or the History Channel or any other channel that has something interesting to show me. I'm certainly not about to dumb down my viewing to suit some clown making decisions at the network level.

  1. Bren Says:

Too bad they couldn't even give Crossing Jordan the ending it deserved. They stated season finale instead of series finale. It really didn't even get a full season. I guess mindless reality and game shows are the new in, while real drama fades to the back. Crossing Jordan deserves to go out with a proper ending and BIG series finale!!! Or BETTER yet, don't cancel it at all!!!

  1. Summer Says:

I really agree with everyone here. I loved Crossing Jordan! It really needs to be wrapped up before it is suffled off. I want to see with happens with Nigel and Kate, Lily, Bug, and the Baby, and Jordan and Woody. I HATE REALITY SHOWS!!!! They suck. If NBC doesn't fix this, they will have lost another viewer. I think we should boycott NBC until they come to their senses. Let's see what happens when they have the lowest ratings of all the channels. Whose with me?

  1. Sheila Says:

YOU CANNOT CANCEL CROSSING JORDAN!!!! I, too, see this as one of the best shows, and the only show a mother of two makes it a point to see during the week to wind down. I SOOOOOOOOO look forward to it every week, this is a hugh disappointment. I think the stories are picking up a bit since bringing on Kate and putting Bug and Lily together... lets see what happens!!! PLEEEASE!!!!

  1. Mary Kate Says:

For what its worth CROSSING JORDAN IS AMAZING! in a series of all of my favorite shows getting cancelled im bummed that yet another is definitely cancelled...especially since the info box said "season finale" not series....Ill miss it!

  1. Bill Baker Says:

    NBC, YOU ARE TWERPS!!!

    CABLE EXECS, YOU ARE TWERPS!!!

Replacing a amazningly quality drama like "Crossing Jordan" with some ridiculous game show like "1 vs 100", bet ya 100 to 1{pun intended} that that stupid show makes 1, MAYBE 2 seasons at best.

What is up with the stupid big whigs and cancelling some of the most quality t.v. shows, both drama and comedy, for game shows based on shoddy and stupid gimmicks, and especially with all these annoying reality programs. But I suppose, we have to blame every idiot whom watches these bl&&dy reality shows and crappy game shows{that have nothin on the classics I might add} for this as well. I mean, come on, look at the quality dramas and sitcoms you are all responsible for pushing off the air for your stupid "big brothers" and "survivor". Cripes!!! Give me a break!!!

"Crossing Jordan" SHOULD get at least one more season, in order to wrap up the loose ends and let it go out in the blaze of glory it deserves! Are ypou listening NBC??? I suppose not? Then go bleep bleep!!!

    Bill Baker
    Canada

  1. Melissa Says:

Please Please dont cancel Crossing Jordan, if you must give a proper 2 hour ending and tie up all thoseloose ends! JORDAN AND WOODY HAVE TO HOOKUP, Lily and Bug have to marry Nigel and Kate must be together and Dr Garrett must be happy. I have a hard time when shows end none worse than Six Feet Under, i still think about them everyday! I am a looney! HAHH! But please if u must do this, give them an ending we can all have closure with!

  1. treva Says:

I honestly can't believe you cancelled this show on a cliff hanger, and haven't even shown the reruns over the summer. If I have to watch more reality show, or tired extension of Law and order I won't watch NBC anymore. Crossing Jordan was unique, and the only other show at night worth watching is Medium on this channel. If you end up last in the ratings, you surely deserve. Jordan has much more to offer than ER which is saying alot, with a much smaller cast. At least give us a reprieve to see the last season's show in a rerun.

  1. ET Says:

Crossing Jordan is one of only 3 shows I do watch on NBC. It was one of my favorites and I can't believe it's being cancelled. It should be brought back for at least another season to tie up all the story lines or for a 2 part special to give loyal viewers closure.

  1. Darcie Says:

PLEASE BRING BACK CROSSING JORDAN At least one more season they just can't leave as hanging with Jordan and Woody, Bug and Lilly Whats going on at NBC?

  1. Cathy Says:

Please bring back Crossing Jordan. It's sad that I already boycott CBS for cancelling good shows and putting on crap reality TV. NBC is headed there too. Dramas such as Crossing Jordan are entertaining - not greedy, winy people who do each other in. For the love of pete, why do you want to watch stuff like that when you live it everyday! At least do something to close the storylines. Be original and don't follow the reality bug!

  1. Dan Kam Says:

I thought for sure that Crossing Jordan would be on again this season. I just looked in the new TV Guide with the fall schedule and saw that it wasn't anywhere there. There were still a lot of loose ends and this is a bad time to end the series.

  1. Donnelly\\\'s fan Says:

    NBC SUCKS!!!!!!

  1. Erica Bohman Says:

Is NBC crazy? This is one of the best shows on!!!!!!!!!!

  1. sunshine484848 Says:

If the networks keep cancelling SERIAL tv shows before revealing some closure on the storyline and the characters, serials will loose their popularity. It's like buying a novel with the last few chapters ripped out...whose going to buy it???

  1. legend_0404 Says:

I just checked NBC's Fall 2007 lineup......Crossing Jordan is NOT in it! Why would such a great show (which I have watched from the very beginning) be cancelled - only to be replaced by STUPID REALITY SHOWS AND OTHER WORTHLESS CRAP! BOY AM I MAD. You can't just leave us fans all hanging after what was called the "SEASON FINALE" - note it was NOT REFERRED TO AS THE "SERIES FINALE." BAD BAD CHOICE NBC!

  1. dodomeyer Says:

    NBC DOES SUCK!!
YOU CANCELLED THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIMES WHEN YOU AXED THE PRETENDER!!!
NOW YOU AXE CROSSING JORDAN WHOSE BROTHER (I MIGHT ADD) WAS PLAYED BY MICHAEL T WEISS (THE PRETENDER)
JORDAN IS AWESOME...YOU MUST GIVE US CLOSURE...YOU ONLY GAVE US HALF-ASS CLOSURE ON JAROD WITH 2 MOVIES
TRY TO DO BETTER THIS TIME
IF YOU CANCEL MEDIUM...I DONT HAVE A THING TO WATCH ON YOUR NETWORK
I WILL WATCH ABC & CBS (CSI KICKS ASS)

  1. Allison Says:

Why would they cancel like that without closing the open storylines? Bad NBC. Bad. They should have made the decision BEFORE the season ended so that they could at least provide an end to the open issues.

The good news is that I won't have to worry about NBC anymore. That was the only show they had that I watched.

  1. grafton Says:

I can't believe they are canceling crossing jordan after that last season...we deserve one more season to end all the story lines that are going..also i bought a dvd recorder cause i work on the wednesday nights it was on...just so i could record the new season and not miss out on anything....i never record shows...there aren't that many worth watching anymore.....couldn't you do a short season NBC like the Dead Zone does...???? PLease!!!!

    what a bummer

  1. kim Says:

Please do not cancel crossing jordan!!!! At least give it one more season to wrap things up between jordan and woody and lilly and bug! How do you cancel a show after a season finale like that? If this show does not come back, what a disappointing ending to a terriffic show. This was definitely the best show on television! I LOVE CROSSING JORDAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Charles Whealton Says:

Wow, how shocking that NBC is cancelling more good shows, among them Crossing Jordan.

I'll never understand the logic behind trashing great works like "Crossing Jordan" and replacing it/them with "reality television" that doesn't seem to require much, if any, talent to put together.

    Absolutely incredible.

    Charles R. Whealton

  1. muttley Says:

I live in Ireland and i happened to be in the states when The Black Donnellys premiered. I was hooked from the start and was thrilled when 2 of our networks over here started to show the series. I was shocked then to discover that it had been cancelled and had only had a few episodes shown by NBC . At least our broadcasters have some sense and they showed the entire series right to the end, which ensured that people had time to watch it properly and the series has many fans here as a result. Now i hear that the excellent Crossing Jordan has also been cancelled and that The Black Donnellys was replaced by another crap reality show from that tool Ashton Kutcher. I dont know what planet the people who run NBC are from, but rather than cancelling good, intelligent and entertaining shows, they might be better off cancelling Ashton Kutcher and themselves and spare the viewing public from having to endure more brain dead moronic muck in the guise of "reality shows".

  1. Cathryn Sorofman Says:

For what it's worth, I look forward every year to the new Crossing Jordan season. Enough of the reality shows...For years, I never changed my channel from the NBC station. Now, I find it a rareity to watch any shows on the channel. Shows like House and CSI challenge the mind. Remember too, the baby boomers are becoming a huge percentage of the population. Not sure how long we'll tolerate the "young" shows.

  1. cg205 Says:

I long ago quit watching NBC news because of their blatant political bias. I also quit watching many of their entertainment shows such as Law and Order, long a favorite of mine, because the writers began interjecting their political leanings through the storylines and scripts. Crossing Jordan was all that was left on NBC that I watched. I guess I can now take that network off of my 'favorites' on my remote.

  1. Jan Bertram Says:

The best, by far, ferensic drama on the air today. Great cast, super stories...great music...(looking for more CDs) and all I can say is...........WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!! Reconsider this move. I am a avid fan and I do not want to lose this great show.

  1. Lani Says:

Crossing Jordan needs to come back! I too looked forward to every season of Crossing Jordan and even watched the re-runs on A&E every chance I got. Come on NBC reconcider this move!

  1. Johnnie Says:

I love crossing jordan best show out there watching last show right now on A&E NBC you really need to bring it back!

  1. Linda Says:

It is ashame that Crossing Jordan Has been CANCELLED. They could carry on the story line of Lilly, Bug and the baby. This is such a great show and I just love all of the actors. The Network needs to reconside this issue and just look at how many fans this show really has. How wants to watch a bunch of crappy reality shows anyway.

  1. Jessica Brewer Says:

i wish you guys had a heart and let crossing jordan come back because that was my favorite show i loved to watch every wednesday so please put it back on for me and everybody else out there.
