NBC's The Voice And Fox's New Girl Dominate Season Finale Ratings

There was a lot of good stuff to catch on TV last night. The Tim Allen vehicle Last Man Standing, as well as Fox’s New Girl, CBS’ Unforgettable, and NBC’s The Voice all showed season finales last night, so it was no surprise people were pretty excited about plunking down on their couches and tuning in. The biggest surprise, however, was the numbers The Voice managed to pull in.

NBC’s sophomore singing competition show generally does pretty well, frequently pulling in an 18-49 demographic ratings (if not total viewers) win, but last night’s viewership was pretty exceptional, pulling in an outstanding 4.3 rating. The show often loses some of its viewership after the swivel chair portion of the series is over, but last night’s lengthy, guest appearance-dominated program not only did better than any episode of The Voice since late March, but also, according to THR, beat out last year’s Season 1 finale by 16%. Perhaps Ron Swanson’s video segment had something to do with this. That’s what I’m rolling with.

Last night’s other season finales should not be ashamed, either. Last Man Standing hopped up in the 18-49 demographic for a 1.7 rating and Unforgettable even managed to tally an extra couple of tenths of a point to its average score, earning a 2.0 last night. The other big success story Tuesday was the end of New Girl’s freshman run, which jumped 27% in the ratings during its last episode. I’m pretty sad it’s that time of year where my favorite characters begin going on hiatus, but with scores like these, I can't complain.
