Neil Patrick Harris Snags Third Emmy Nomination For Hosting The Tonys
It was impressive enough that Neil Patrick Harris managed to snag two Emmy nominations this year, one for his role as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother and one for his guest stint on Glee as Mr. Schue's high school rival. Now the Emmys have admitted a mistake and nominated him for a third statue, for hosting this year's Tony Awards.
The astute commenters at Gold Derby picked up on the fact that all of the producers of the Tonys had been named in the show's nomination for the special-class Emmy given to awards shows, but Harris's name wasn't included as a host. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were nominated as hosts for the Oscars, so what was the deal? Turns out it was just an error, and one that the Emmys folks have fixed.
The Gold Derby folks aren't necessarily predicting that Harris will win for How I Met Your Mother or for Glee, but they think he's got a good chance with the Tonys-- the awards show won its category in 2005, 2007 and 2008. So now the man who continually hosts awards shows may finally get a statue of his own, all thanks to some obsessive Internet commenters. It's a heartwarming story, don't you think?
