Neil Patrick Harris Visits Conan, Teases Cameo Plans For How I Met Your Mother
Neil Patrick Harris killed while hosting the Tony's last week. He might just be the heir apparent to Billy Crystal as the premiere awards show host, and hopefully they'll give him a chance at the Oscars (if they don't go with my first pick, Sacha Baron Cohen). Last night, NPH put aside hosting duties to be a guest on Conan, and not only did they have a hilarious and charming interview, but we learned there might be a Conan O'Brien/How I Met Your Mother crossover in the near future.
Okay, so crossover is perhaps blowing the story a little out of proportion, but while both were attending a charity auction (and sitting together), Conan outbid himself, several times apparently, and won a spot as an extra on the CBS sitcom. After winning the spot, the writers offered him an actual role, but Conan thought it'd be funnier to keep him as a line-less extra in the background. Vulture made the joke I wish I could have, that Conan's appearance is "tragically not as the mother, which would be the best twist the show could possibly pull off." That would be pretty awesome.
Here's the clip (the extra story starts about 4:45 BUT the whole interview is really worth the watch. They discuss NPH's recent fatherhood, his play-dates with Elton John, and his upcoming role in The Smurfs...you can skip that part).
Conan airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on TBS.
