The Newsroom Season 2 Teaser: Together They Stand Alone

We're still more than a month out from the return of The Newsroom, which could mean we're in for more teasers like the one above, which don't actually show us any footage from the approaching second season, but offer vague and symbolic reminders of the kind of drama that awaits. In the case of the latest teaser, which plays more like a music video, the newsroom is gone and the desert has taken its place. And with the workplace stripped away, Will McAvoy has no choice but to see what's right in front of him.

Charlie's toasting, Sloan's looking like she's about to quite, Dev can't get a signal, Maggie and Jim may be getting closer, and Will and Mac are in love but apart, which seems familiar. And Jane Fonda's Leona Lansing appears via billboard, with an "I'm watching." message to let him know that, even when she's not there, she's there. It all ends with them standing together (alone) watching a TV. An old TV, in fact.

This latest teaser follows a number of other promos and teasers, which don't do much to hint at what kind of issues the fictional cable news channel will be dealing with, but do remind us that the series is as much about the characters as it is about the inner workings of a modern-day(ish) cable news channel.

The Newsroom returns July 14 on HBO.
