The nominations for The 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards were announced today and after looking over the list of TV-related nominees, I’m not sure I’m all that interested in checking out the awards ceremony when it airs on CBS this January (Jan. 7th, 9:00 PM ET). This is not to say that many of the shows and people among the nominees aren’t worthy of the prize but from my point of view, there are a number of actors and TV series that seem to have been completely overlooked by “the people” this year.
According to the press release issued by CBS, “Nominees for THE 35TH ANNUAL PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS were determined with the help of E-Poll Market Research, a leading provider of products and custom research solutions for entertainment and media companies, agencies and Fortune 1000 companies. The study was conducted by E-Poll using the People's Choice Online Community to achieve a nationally representative sample of respondents aged 13 or older.”
Apparently the people over at People’s Choice Online community don’t watch The Office, 30 Rock, or Lost. Those are three relatively popular series that one would think would have made the list. With Pushing Daisies’ struggling ratings, it’s a bit easier to understand how that show might not have gotten a nomination and as a fan of Battlestar Galactica, I’ve grown used to that series being overlooked at awards ceremonies, so there’s no surprise there. How I Met Your Mother was acknowledged in the “Favorite Scene Stealing Guest-Star” category but left off the TV comedy list.
I suppose with only three nominees per category, it’s to be expected that not all of our favorites are going to make the cut but it’s truly disappointing when some of the best shows on TV are all but ignored by whoever it was that participated in the polls that determined these nominees.
