Slowly but surely, the cast roster for Joss Whedon’s much anticipated new series Dollhouse is filling up. Late last month it was announced that Battlestar Galactica’s Tahmoh Penikett recently signed on for the show. Now, this week it’s been reported that Olivia Williams has been added to the cast of the new Fox show as well.
According to Variety, Williams will play the role of the “beautiful but ruthless woman in charge of the venue where drones are programmed to perform various missions in the real world.” In other words, it sounds like she’s the dolls’ Madam (in a way). Dollhouse centers on a young woman named Echo (played by Eliza Dushku), who is one of many "dolls." She lives with other people who, like herself, have their personalities wiped and imprinted with different personas. The dolls are then sent on various assignments based on whatever job or fantasy the client wants. Afterwards, their memories are wiped clean.
Variety lists Williams’ film credit as X-Men: The Last Stand but according to her IMDB page, Williams wasn’t even credited for her role as Dr. Moira MacTaggert in the film. So it seems unlikely that most people would even remember her in that movie (and it's probably for the best as X-Men: The Last Stand was easily the weakest of the three X-Men movies). You'll probably have a much easier time remembering Williams from her role as Anna (Bruce Willis’ character’s wife) in The Sixth Sense or as Ria from the film adaptation of Tara Road. It sounds like she'll be playing a much less likable role in Dollhouse though.
