One Epic Game Of Thrones Confrontation That Will Happen During Season 6

Generally the Game of Thrones cast is reluctant to talk about the upcoming season of the hit HBO drama, but sometimes an actor or two will sneak a new tidbit into an interview. Recently, Diana Rigg, who plays Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones, revealed there’s a big confrontation coming up between her character and Cersei during Season 6. Here’s what she had to say about what is coming up:

I've got a head-on with Cersei coming up and it's really good.

Obviously, Rigg isn’t being specific about what the upcoming confrontation will entail, but I like that she at least confirms to the Digital Spy that she’ll still be around King’s Landing and dealing with all of the tough stuff the Tyrells were forced to put up with at the hands of Cersei (and the incompetent Tommen) last season. It was rough. And with any luck, the payback will hopefully be brutal.

Spoilers from last season are in this paragraph, so if you aren’t caught up, now is a great time to bail on this article. Problems have been coming to a head between the Tyrells and the Lannisters for a while. Last season, Olenna’s granddaughter Margaery exchanged words with Cersei in a memorable exchange in front of the Tyrell woman’s ladies-in-waiting. She later paid for the exchange, however, when Cersei joined up with the High Sparrow and had Margaery’s brother Loras arrested for his sexual preferences. Margaery herself was imprisoned for giving false testimony in favor of her brother. Obviously, while things didn’t end up going so well for Cersei at the end of Season 5, things are going arguably worse for the Tyrell siblings and I have a feeling that Olenna’s wit, cunning and quick barbs will all come in handy during her dealings with Cersei. She may need to be on guard if Cersei finds out that Olenna knew and maybe had something to do with Lancel revealing his affair last season.

There’s a lot to look forward to in Season 6 of Game of Thrones. We already know a few big characters will definitely be returning, including Bran and Hodor, who were missing last season, but also a few characters that were presumed to be dead, as well. And we know the Greyjoy family story and Samwell Tarly’s own story will be fleshed out more with the addition of new family members. Still, I have always been particularly fond of Olenna Tyrell and I love it when anyone manages to put Cersei in her place during a confrontation, so this is an incredible-sounding development. We’ll let you know if any more news related to what Olenna will be up to in Season 6 breaks.

In the meantime, if you are interested in all of the crazy shenanigans the show is gearing up to include in Game of Thrones Season 6, please take a minute to check out what we know so far. Game of Thrones will return to the schedule in the spring of 2016, at least presumably.
