Orange Is The New Black Already Renewed For Season 3

Netflix is taking a page from the old Starz playbook, renewing one of its anchor original programs before the brand new season even runs. Orange is the New Black is set to begin streaming on Netflix on June 6, but more than a month ahead of the Season 2 premiere, word on the street is that Orange is the New Black is headed to the network for a third season.

The big news broke on Monday, courtesy of Orange is the New Black Season 2 star Laura Prepon, who happily shared her joy via Instagram. Not only does the post feature the announcement that the show will be returning for Season 3, it also features a slew of titles on a whiteboard, which look to be from Season 3. While titles like “Use Your Tears As Lube” and “The Great Hate Fuck” might seem unlikely, they are in line with ones like “Fucksgiving” and “Tit Punch” we’ve already seen. Honestly, if these titles prove to be for Season 3, I’m most amused by “Offended, But Okay.” Anyway, check them out.

Netflix later confirmed the renewal, which shouldn’t come as a shock to followers of the show. Orange is the New Black comes from famed showrunner Jenji Kohan, who also happened to be the mastermind behind Showtime’s long-lasting series, Weeds. Her new show hit Netflix to good viewership and critical acclaim, prompting the prison-based series to be renewed for Season 2 even before Season 1 was available for streaming. The subscription service’s confidence in Orange is the New Black is impressive, and it’s no wonder. The comedy-drama recently put out a 2-minute preview for Season 2, and the brief look you get to see should make you want more.

Who wouldn’t want to see more of that? And with prices scheduled to increase, the service will definitely have enough money to give Jenji Kohan and company as much money as they could possibly need to bring their vision to life. In fact, at this point, the only real question is whether or not feature seasons will continue to be awesome enough that they’ll preemptively continue to inspire future seasons way ahead of time.

Season 2 of Orange Is The New Black premieres on June 6 on Netflix. Feel free to binge watch immediately.
