NBC’s high-powered, expensive, well-written, Matthew Perry vehicle ‘Studio 60’ will remain on the air, at least for a few more weeks. NBC has denied the rumors of its cancellation and solidified the news that several more scripts were ordered from Aaron Sorkin, the writer. Sorkin’s work on ‘The West Wing’ has been lauded in Hollywood and led to him helming the writing for ‘Studio 60.’

Unfortunately, the viewer ratings for ‘Studio 60’ have been low. After a strong opening of 14 million viewers, the show dropped to an average of 8 million viewers per episode. This past week, on October 31, NBC pulled an episode of ‘60’ to highlight their football drama ‘Friday Night Lights.’ The scheduling ploy worked, however, enhancing the time slot’s ratings to almost 12 million viewers.

The future is uncertain for ‘Studio 60,’ but one thing is clear: If the ratings don’t get better, the show will go the way of ‘Kidnapped.’ NBC has not been shy about axing shows that do not perform well. Here’s to hoping for more of Sorkin’s dry wit (imaginary glass raised).
