Penny Dreadful Behind The Scenes Video Highlights Series' Intricate Visual Delights
The amount of work that goes into a television series is truly awe-inspiring. There is so much more at play than just the actors, writers, and directors involved, as evidenced by Showtime’s latest production blog for their upcoming series, Penny Dreadful. Truly, a show this intricately placed in time, with the added pressure of being accurately creepy and unsettling takes many hands. And it’s a totally radical sight to see, especially after that über-unsettling trailer.
The series’ fourth production blog hit the Internet earlier this week, highlighting the artisans involved in the series’ set. From the props to the actual sets, it’s thrilling and awe-inspiring to see the level of detail that goes into each and every element of the Penny Dreadful look and design. If you didn’t already have an immense amount of respect for the behind-the-scenes aspects of television makery, prepared to have your mind boggled and delighted. A good TV show is so much more than just its cast (even one as impressive as this) — and that artistry deserves a bit of recognition.
Three other blogs detail the series’ other impressive aspects, which are also worth watching:
And to top it all off, here’s the full description for the series, courtesy of Showtime:
In Penny Dreadful, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light – have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, License to Kill) and Eva Green (Casino Royale). Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger) and Danny Sapani (The Bill) also star. Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar® winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call The Midwife), both of Neal Street. Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by J.A. Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance.
Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday, May 11th at 10PM.
