Pilot Casting: Dennis Miller Headed To Awesometown, Tom Irwin Joins Devious Maids

Dennis Miller is probably known for his hosting and commentating than he is for his acting, however he’s also known to be funny, which should serve him well in the ABC comedy pilot Awesometown, a project that's building a solid cast but seems to have taken the wrong page out of Cougar Town’s book with regards to its title. (See also Happy Town... also ABC.)

Deadline posted the news that Miller is set to join previously cast Ben Rappaport in the Adam Sztykiel written comedy pilot. The project is described as “ raw, hilarious peek behind the curtain of modern twentysomething relationships.” Rappaport plays Dusty, a recently divorced 20-something who moves into an apartment with two of his coworkers (played by Nick Kocher and James Earl III). Miller has signed on to play “the genius boss of Burke Architecture.” Apparently, he doesn’t smile, which should make for an interesting character, and certainly an intriguing role for Miller.

In other casting news related to ABC pilots, Tom Irwin has joined the ABC pilot Devious Maids. The drama pilot is based on a Mexican series and follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) who work in wealthy Beverly Hills households. Irwin has signed on to play one of the employers, who has apparently been sleeping with his maid.

Irwin’s played various TV roles over the years, including roles in Saving Grace and Grey’s Anatomy. He also appeared in a couple of episodes of Lost. But I’ll probably always associate him as Angela’s dad, Graham Chase in My So Called Life.
