This Thursday night will be a night of firsts for President Barack Obama. The leader of this fine nation is scheduled to appear as a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This in itself isn’t a first for Obama or for The Tonight Show. Obama appeared on the show back in December of 2006. It is however his first sit-down talk show appearance in studio in front of a live audience since becoming elected.

That’s not the only first. On Thursday, March 19th when President Obama sits down with Leno, it will be the first appearance of a sitting President on a late night talk show. I suppose all the other presidents were too busy to share a few laughs with Leno. Though to be fair, from NBC’s report of this news, it does sound like Obama’s going to be talking shop during his interview with Leno. Among the topics set to be discussed is Obama’s economic plan. Given the state of the economy, it’s likely many people are going to want to hear more about that, even if it’s in a more casual setting than the typical presidential address we’re used to seeing.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno airs on weekdays at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
