HBO is keeping Bill Maher around for a while. He’s signed a new three-year contract with the cable network, and has also seen his talk show renewed for another two seasons. Real Time with Bill Maher will be on the air at least through 2014, getting us well past the upcoming elections that are sure to keep Maher busy spouting opinions.

Real Time is already in its 10th season, and will now have 12 seasons guaranteed. Maher’s show has been nominated 27 times for an Emmy but has yet to win; perhaps the 2012 election will give him the edge he needs to take home a trophy? Ratings for the show are already up this year thanks to all the extra fun political stuff there is for Maher to be witty about during an election year. Maher, who is an outspoken supporter of President Obama and makes an all-around effort to irritate and offend conservatives (and sometimes even offending those he supports, because he likes to keep things on an even keel like that), will get to do so for at least two more years, says Deadline. He most recently found himself under fire for making some not-so-nice comments about Mitt Romney’s wife, which even drew criticism from Obama’s camp. Surely they’ve forgiven him, what with the $1 million donation he made to the campaign fund.

What else might be involved in the three-year deal with HBO is yet to be seen, but no one will be surprised if Real Time is renewed again come 2014. Bill Maher isn’t showing signs of slowing down.
