Revenge Casts Jennifer Jason Leigh To Play The Role Of...

While many of us will forever associate her with being the ultimate "American Girl" Stacy Hamilton in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, these days Jennifer Jason Leigh is bringing her own layer of drama to Showtime's Weeds as Nancy's sister Jill. But with Weeds on the way out, Leigh is likely to have room in her schedule for other roles, and it looks like she found one on another great drama series.

Vague Revenge spoilers ahead!

Those of us who kept up with Revenge last season learned during the finale that Emily's mother is actually still alive. Since then, fans have obviously been curious to know who would play her if/when she makes an appearance in the ABC drama series. TV Line posted word today that Jennifer Jason Leigh has been cast to play the role in the series' upcoming second season.

Whether it be in flashbacks or present-day, Jennifer Jason Leigh has the part and looking at her, she seems like a good fit for the part. According to what Revenge creator Mike Kelley told TVLine back in May, Emily's mother has some "deep psychological issues…

"So we’re going to need somebody that can play volatile and dangerous; all of the scariest parts of Emily’s personality are going to be present and apparent and a little bit out of control in her mother. But at the same time, what works so great for Emily is that sweet façade, so this woman needs to feel like she’s got potential for kindness. You look at her and you don’t know that she’s as damaged as she is inside. But you’ll quickly learn that this is a very dangerous person.”

It isn't difficult to picture Leigh playing someone who, like Emily, has multiple sides to her. She also looks young enough that she'd be a good fit for flashbacks, assuming that's in the cards for the role. It should be interesting to see what's in store for the part and how it might fit into what's going on with Emily. In the meantime, this is certainly a great bit of casting.
