Ricky Martin In Talks For A Role On Fox's Glee
Fresh off Glee’s announcement that the show is excited about doing some more pop covers, producers of the hit Fox program have another trick up their sleeve. Glee is in talks with Ricky Martin to bring the singer in as a teacher on the show. Idina Menzel has been on multiple times as a substitute math teacher, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s role even won her an Emmy award for best guest star, so having another high profile star on should do nothing if not prove to be good press for Glee.
If Martin does decide to sign on for Glee, he would play a Spanish teacher who really enjoys music. TV Line is reporting part of Martin’s gig will entail the singer running two large musical numbers with the cast. If you are excited for Martin to appear on the show, you won’t have to wait long. Assuming the deal goes through, his episode will premiere in January.
Whether or not Glee needs another guest star, having one hasn’t ever seemed to be a bad call. Paltrow’s version of Cee-Lo’s “Forget You” hit number 9 on the Billboard charts. If the Adele cover from a few weeks ago hitting number one on iTunes doesn’t prove it, having hits on the show is good for the show. If it isn't already, Glee’s motto should be “Anything that gets the show highly ranked on iTunes goes," which isn’t a bad thing. Although, I for one am super excited to see if Martin has finessed his acting skills since his stint on General Hospital, having him sing should be pretty fun, too.
