Ryan Seacrest Says Britney Spears Will Cameo On Glee
For once Ryan Murphy isn't the one revealing too many plot details about upcoming episodes of Glee-- well, at least not directly. On his Twitter feed today Ryan Seacrest revealed that yet another celebrity will be making a cameo appearance on Glee next season, and this one is likely to come with her own song and dance numbers too:
Spoke to @gleeonfox creator ryan murphy. Said @britneyspears will appear on glee. Also no plans yet but wants to do Prince, Beatles & MJ eps
We heard back in July that Murphy was planning a Britney tribute episode along the lines of the Madonna episode that aired last season, but back then word on the street was that Spears herself wouldn't make an appearance. It makes much more sense, though, for her to join in-- she did a stint on How I Met Your Mother not that long ago, after all, and it would be a welcome career boost for her to show up on one of TV's most popular shows, particularly one revolving around her for an entire episode.
The question now is if Spears will be playing herself or actually attempting to act again-- it's hard to know which will be worse, really. As for the rumored Prince, Beatles and Michael Jackson episodes, we pretty much have to greet those with a big "duh." Murphy is a master at drumming up publicity for the show, and the more he talks about big plans for the future and the more he targets specific audiences, the more people get worked up either looking forward to it or decrying Glee's existence. It's all publicity one way or another, right? While a Beatles or Michael Jackson episode seems pretty likely, given how often those songs get licensed out (and all by Jackson's estate!), a Prince one seems much harder to pull off. And much as the sight of Lea Michele belting "Raspberry Beret" might bring some of you joy, can we just leave The Artist Formerly Known As alone for now?
