NBC announced that on Sunday, May 17th, they’ll be airing a new prime time special, Saturday Night Live Just Shorts. Hosted by Andy Samberg, this special is the first of it’s kind and will feature the greatest “short films” from the past 34 years of the show's history.
Among the sketches features in the special are "Synchronized Swimmers," directed by Christopher Guest and featuring Martin Short; "TV Funhouse," written by Robert Smigel; and the 2007 Emmy Award-winning digital short "D**k in a Box," with pop sensation Justin Timberlake. Also included are "Lazy Sunday," "Japanese Office," "United Way" with football star Peyton Manning, "MacGruber," "Star Wars Screen Tests," "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handey, and “Mr. Bill.” Talk about a wide variety of sketches. This kind of special will certainly showcase just how much the comedy style on SNL has varied over the last few decades. Of the special, Samberg said, "It's great to be able to show all these great ones from the past to a generation that is not familiar with them. For me to do hosting segments and be able to (introduce) 'Synchronized Swimmers,' this is not just something that influenced me heavily but influenced everybody in comedy." Saturday Night Live Just Shorts will air on Sunday, May 17th at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. |
