And it’s official! Fox announced to that they are definitely picking up Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a second season. While this alone is great news, it also looks like we won’t have to wait until next winter for the new season to start.
Last weekend, rumor had it that the series was being picked up and now, according to the Hollywood Reporter, it looks like the rumors are true. Not only will SCC be returning for a second season but according to The Reporter, it’s coming back this fall. The series received an order for 13 new episodes. When SCC returns, it probably won’t be returning to its Monday night 9:00 p.m. timeslot. Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly noted that if SCC were to air at that time come this fall, it would be up against Heroes. That probably wouldn’t work out very well, considering both shows probably share at least part of the same audience. NBC’s Heroes was on hiatus this past winter, so it wasn’t an issue then.
Reilly went on to say that there’s a good chance SCC could get an early order for the back-nine episodes. Since the new Terminator film is due out next May, there might be some cross-promotional opportunities between the show and the new movie. If this happens, it'll be interesting to see how the series affects the film and obviously how the events that take place in the film could affect the series.
