Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning to television in an HBO comedy called The Wonderful Maladys, which is a single camera comedy about some dysfunctional New York siblings. The show will also star Nate Corddry and Molly Parker.
Gellar’s brief stints in the film world over the years since Buffy left our television screens have run rampant with mediocrity. Serious roles have been laughable at best, but Gellar has remained in her element with a mild bent on comedy. No one would claim her to be a spectacularly ranged actress, but in the right hands she handles comedic moments with a certain amount of deftness you might not expect after watching The Grudge.
Let’s hope this gets Gellar back on track ,and if it doesn’t work out perhaps she could be the new Echo on Dollhouse except that Dushku comes back immediately and keeps her lead role. Then Gellar could play the crazy inexplicable second Echo, eventually teaming up with a wonderfully villainous mayor who is so nice on the outside but is really a demon.
The Wonderful Maladys will premiere on HBO sometime in 2010.
