Scandal Season 2, Episode 12 Clip: Olivia Expresses Regret In Truth Or Consequences

After a week off, Scandal returns this week for a new episode that will put Olivia's team (back) to work, this time on a scandal she's involved in. Any guesses what that might be?… No, it's not that one, it's the other one. The clip for tomorrow night's episode shows us Olivia and Cyrus talking about the rigged election. And unsurprisingly, Olivia's expressing regret… to put it mildly.

Just a couple weeks ago, I was expressing concern that Scandal had switched its focus from Olivia's work as a professional fixer to her personal relationship with the President, with a slight detour focusing on the assassination attempt on Fitz. While I'm certainly not complaining about the steamy romance between Fitz and Olivia or the recent drama involving the president's life, I do sort of miss seeing her gladiators fighting the good (or scandalous) fight each week. It doesn't sound like the show is switching back over to the old format this week, but based on the episode description, it looks like Olivia's people will be getting involved in the election scandal.

"Truth or Consequences" - After discovering the truth about the rigged White House election, the "Gladiators in Suits" realize that a quickly unraveling Olivia may not always wear the white hat. Meanwhile, Mellie is forced to take extreme measures to try and reel Fitz in, on ABC's "Scandal," THURSDAY, JANUARY 31 (10:02-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Olivia's managed to keep some of her biggest secrets from her people, but it sounds like they're about to find out about at least one of them.

Meanwhile, the clip below shows Olivia and Cyrus talking about the rigged election.

Olivia seems to recognize that her relationship with Fitz clouded her judgment. Will the regret from that past mistake affect how she sees her relationship with him now? And is there some way around this election scandal for the show? An explanation or revelation that makes it so that somehow Fitz really did get elected fair and square? Because it's hard to imagine how they can "fix" this situation beyond covering it up more and hoping it isn't uncovered again. Truth? Or Consequences? Notice the episode title doesn't suggest both.

Scandal airs Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
