This Sunday, the SciFi network will premiere the first part of their three-part original miniseries, Tin Man. The miniseries is a re-imagined take on L. Frank Baum’s classic story, The Wizard of Oz. While the story of a young woman being whisked off by a tornado and into another world might mirror the original tale we’re all so familiar with, SciFi has given this version their own brand of dark, twistiness that I hope will turn out to be fun and entertaining rather than just plain weird. Or at the very least, a nice balance between the two.

The story of Tin Man centers on DG (Zooey Deschanel), a waitress from the Midwest who gets caught up in a tornado and dropped off in The Outer Zone (O.Z.). There she finds a strange world that is currently under the reign of the evil sorceress, Azkadellia (Kathleen Robertson). I need to pause in the synopsis here to point out that I will forever associate Robertson with her role as Clare in Beverly Hills, 90210. DG soon comes to realize that she is meant to play a big role in taking down Azkadellia and returning the reign of the land to the rightful queen, Azkadellia’s mother, Lavender Eyes. Richard Dreyfus is set to play the Mystic Man, whom I’m assuming is the Tin Man equivalent to “The Wizard.” Also among the cast is Alan Cumming (Glitch), Raoul Trujillo (Raw) and Neal McDonough (Cain).

Below is a clip from the making of the three-part miniseries:
