The Simpsons have been 3-D before, but they’ve never been portrayed by live actors. At least until now.

According to BBC News, on Sunday shortly before the debut of a new “Simpsons” episode written by and starring Ricky Gervais (star and creator of the original British version of “The Office”), Fox will show off a live action trailer in which human actors play “The Simpsons” characters. It’s a parody of “The Simpsons” opening, but it won’t replace it. It’ll run before it. The “Simpsons” episode it’ll play in front of is called “Homer Simpson: This Is Your Wife”, and features Ricky Gervais and “The Simpsons” taking part in a version of TV’s “Wife Swap”.

The live-action short was originally created as an advertisement for the UK TV Channel Sky One. “The Simpsons” creators saw it, and liked it so much they’re bringing it over to US audiences. “Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean says he is “just amazed there are people who want to be known for looking like the Simpsons.”
