Smash Season 2 Adds Theater Veteran Andy Mientus

Smash was in the early batch of shows NBC renewed for next season, alongside other network favorites like Parenthood and Grimm. Because of this, the showy drama has already had plenty of time to get the show in the works for Season 2. Just last week, Smash added powerhouse singer Jennifer Hudson in a guest starring role and now the show has added another musical talent.

One of the biggest strengths Smash has had in the past has been adding a good mix of known actors to names and faces known solely from the theater world. This has made a show about Broadway seem as if it actually coming from a Broadway perspective and not simply the minds of TV creators. Now, to keep the balance, the show has added another theater veteran to the cast.

Andy Mientus is set to join Smash during Season 2. According to TV Line, Mientus has been involved with such theatrical productions as Spring Awakening and Carrie in the past. On the NBC show, the actor will play Kyle, a writer who has not yet made his mark but who dreams of creating Broadway hits. I don’t know if Kyle will be able to find his place with Julia or Tom, but as long as he doesn’t play the same cards as Ellis, I expect he’ll do a bit better with his story arc.
