Spartacus Lines Up Its Caesar For Next Season

Things are bloodier and possibly even more dramatic than ever on Spartacus: Vengeance, which makes it hard for me to want to look ahead beyond this season. Starz and Spartacus producers may disagree. In fact, that seems probable as they’ve just added two new cast members to the series for its third(ish) season.

Entertainment Weekly shared the news, which involves two new characters that will be opposed to Spartacus and his rebellion. Australian actor Todd Lasance has been brought on board to play Caesar next season. According to the character description, he’s on his way up in the world at this point, beginning “his ascent toward ruling the empire.”

Also joining the series is British actor Simon Merrells, who will play the wealthy general Marcus Crassus. He’s the richest man in Rome, so it’s no surprise that he’s also against Spartacus. It seems everyone with money is. According to EW, he “craves the power and respect that would come from defeating Spartacus.”

At this point, Glaber is the big bad in this series, but he could be poised for a major defeat. Right now it seems like they’re setting him up that way. Not only does he have a major enemy in Spartacus, but his wife and her BFF don’t think too fondly of him, and neither are the type to sit around and let their lives suck for very long.

?Regardless of whether or not Glaber’s days are numbered, it’s interesting to learn that there are some new characters lined up to build onto the fight between the Romans and the rebels. It should be especially interesting to see Lasance’s take on Caesar. I can't help but notice that he's kind of dreamy, which is sort of a theme for this show...
