Starz Sets Date For Party Down Return And Gravity Premiere
Starz announced today that the second season of their comedy series Party Down is set to premiere on April 23rd. What’s more, the new comedy-slash-tragedy series Gravity will share the 10 o’clock hour with Party Down.
Party Down follows a bunch of Hollywood wannabes who work at a party catering company. Joining the cast of in its second season is former Will & Grace star Megan Mullally. She’ll be playing a “middle-aged refugee from a lousy marriage who moves to Hollywood in hopes that her 13-year-old daughter will make it big.” I’m eager to see Mullally in a new role if only so I can stop associating her with her role as the crazy dancing-singing-lady from those I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercials.
Bryan Gordon and Fred Savage will return as series directors, while David Wain (Role Models) and series star Ken Marino will also be directing episodes this season. Marino’s set to direct the season 2 finale, which (spoiler alert!) features the wedding of Jane Lynch’s character. (end spoiler)
As for Gravity, Starz describes the new series as a sometimes comic, sometimes tragic show that follows people in an out-patient program for suicide survivors. Veronica Mars fans surely see the many connections that Party Down has with VM (Ken Marino and Ryan Hansen as regulars, series creator Rob Thomas also having created VM and appearances by Kristen Bell and Enrico Colantoni, etc). Gravity has its own Mars connection as it stars Krysten Ritter, who in addition to appearing in Breaking Bad and Confessions of a Shopaholic, played the role of Gia in the second season of Veronica Mars.
Gravity also stars Ivan Sergei (Charmed, The Break-Up), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible) and supermodel Rachel Hunter. The series will make its debut on Starz following the season premiere of Party Down on April 23rd.
