Starz Sets Spartacus: War Of The Damned Premiere Date

Spartacus fans, mark your calendars. The final cycle of Starz’ epic Roman program Spartacus: War of the Damned has a premiere date. The end game for the Thracian rebel will begin on Friday, January 25th at 9 p.m. on Starz.

Back in June, Starz made the announcement the network would be wrapping the series up with War of the Damned, much to the disappointment of the show’s many fans. The final season, however, promises to end things in spectacular style. It will open just after the defeat of Roman commander Gauis Claudius Glaber. Spartacus’ legend is growing and a series of victories have increased his power as well as his ranks, swelling to over 30,000 and presenting a true threat to the Romans.

The Spartacus franchise has become tremendously popular in spite of being something of an underdog network--it has helped Starz make a name for itself in a premium cable world dominated by HBO and Showtime—and in spite of the tragic loss to cancer of its star, Andy Whitfield, in 2011. Whitfield was replaced by Liam MacIntyre, who will finish out the series in the title role. War of the Damned is expected to bring the series to a satisfying conclusion for fans.

It’s been a long wait since the announcement of the final installment of Spartacus, but Deadline is stating that wait is nearly over. There are only a couple of more months to go before the January 25th premiere, and even though that premiere will be all the way at the end of the month, at least we have a date to look forward to.
