Stop The Presses: A Mad Men Teaser Is Here At Last

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness! Finally, finally, finally: one of those stereotypically thin but still somehow exciting clips from the final season of AMC’s hit Mad Men has hit the Internet. With just over a month to go until Don Draper (Jon Hamm) returns to his drinking, womanizing ways — for the last time on Sunday, April 13th at 10PM. And frankly, our excitement is palpable.

Listen: as soon as you watch the clip you’re likely to think, “well that was a whole lot of nothing why was the author of the post so excited?” After all, it is typically Mad Men in fashion — a tiny glimpse with little action and even less dialogue. This is just so Matt Weiner! It’s just so typical it’s basically a parody of itself! To which the post author states: do you know how feel of these moments we have left? Precious and few, my friends — precious and few. So excuuuuuuuuuuse us if we feel like savoring, cherishing, and overhyping the moment. Because Mad Men is — and always will be — a truly iconic and game-changing series. (And one of our favorites.) So we’re apt to get excited about it, and want to give it the respect (and emotional outburst-laden post) it so rightly deserves.

If I wasn’t such a professional, this post would continue down a decidedly less cool path, with nary more than utterances of “ugh, yes, Mad Men!” and “thank bajeezus and the snake lord in heaven, Mad Men returneth at last!” for like, 500 words. But it’s all professionalism here — keeping up appearances just like ol’ Donny D would do.

Putting this clip into the limited context we have, it looks as though Don Draper has gone to sunny California yet again (he can’t seem to get enough of the place, can he?), and sat least looks to be in far better spirits than when we left him last season — but we all know looks can be deceiving. Especially when you consider the fact that at the end of season six Don was forced to take a leave of absence from SCDP following his truth telling at the Hershey’s pitch meeting. And he gave up the dream (or was it just another chance to run? C;mon, Donny boy) to head to California with Megan and start his life anew there. So it’s all pretty interesting, all things considered.

Regardless of all the questions we have now, the truth remains: there’s new Mad Men! New Mad Men on the horizon! Even if it is split in two. So forgive us for being very excited about that.
