Summer TV Has More To Offer Than Reruns
People say there’s nothing good on TV in the summertime. I say that’s a load of hogwash (yes, I said “hogwash.”) Ok, sure, many of the must-watch series are on hiatus right now. Even Battlestar Galactica, which premiered in April is on break, leaving geeks like me to count down the days to the unknown date when it’ll return with the second half of the final season. In the meantime, just because great shows like Lost, The Office and Heroes are off the air, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing good to watch. Here are five shows I’m currently hooked on:
Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood - This season, Tori, Dean, baby Liam and their unborn daughter have moved back to L.A. Normally I don’t care much for celebreality but for some reason, I just love this show. Maybe it’s because Dean and Tori genuinely appear to be ignoring the cameras. Oh, I’m sure they’re fully aware that they’re there but there isn’t the stagey-ness that you see so often in other celebrity reality series. Plus, Tori and Dean is actually pretty funny and strangely addicting.
Army Wives - Army Wives is a drama series that centers on women married to men in the military and dealing with the challenges that come with that lifestyle added to all the normal challenges of being a wife and mother. It’s a total chick-show but I love it.
In Plain Sight - This new USA series centers on Mary, a woman who works as a U.S. Marshal in the Witness Protection program. Mary’s kind of a hardass but that’s part of what makes her so likable as a character. Like most USA series, this is one of those shows that you can pretty much jump into anytime so if you haven’t already, I recommend checking it out.
So You Think You Can Dance - This dancing competition is one of my favorite things about summer TV. The dancers are amazing and with talented choreographers constantly coming up with new routines, you never really know what you’re going to get on any given performance episode.
Hell’s Kitchen - The Gordon Ramsay cooking competition is about to wrap up its season this summer but it’s been fun watching the various cooks compete against each other for a shot at heading up one of Ramsay’s restaurants. I can’t say that this has been the best season of the series to date but I’m still excited to see whether it’s Christina or Petrozza who wins it.
Ok, so three of the five shows I listed are reality series. If that’s not your thing, keep an eye out for the USA network’s upcoming premieres, including Burn Notice, Psych, and Monk. For more upcoming summer TV premieres, CLICK HERE.
So what are you watching this summer? Or are you too busy at the movies and desperately waiting for The Dark Knight to premiere to care about what’s on TV these days?
