Tyler Perry is everywhere. He’ s done theater, film, books and now TV. The man who brought us the film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman has a new TV series coming out on TBS. The show is set to air this Wednesday night and is titled ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.’
‘House of Payne’ centers on a multigenerational African American family that lives under the same roof. Among the characters is CJ, played by Allen Payne (‘The Cosby Show’), a father of two who has to make the decision to move the family into his aunt and uncle’s home after his house burns down. Curtis (aka “Pops") is CJ’s uncle and father of a college-aged slacker named Calvin. CJ’s wife Ella is a religious woman who continues to nurture Calvin despite the fact that he’s completely unmotivated. Based on how the show is described, it looks as though it could have a nice blend of humor and heart. Once upon a time you could turn on the TV and find a handful of shows like this on any given night. But times have changed and the family comedy seems to have gotten lost somewhere. Maybe TBS noticed that too and decided to give families something new to watch instead of tired reruns of ‘Full House,’ and ‘Fresh Prince of Belair.’ ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’ premieres on TBS on Wednesday, June 6 at 9:00 pm EST. |
