Super Bowl Brings In Kelly Clarkson For The National Anthem
The Super Bowl is a night of football, BBQ, and often, copious amounts of beer. It is the biggest football game and sports event of the entire year, and it is watched by millions and millions. 110 million people tuned in last year. The bar is higher for commercials, the very best commentators are used, and the stadium itself is packed. Which is why it is no surprise the bar for entertainment is also set very high. This year, Madonna is expected to wow audiences with an extremely cool halftime show. Another songstress has earned the right to sing the National Anthem.
Kelly Clarkson is set to sing the National Anthem during Super Bowl XLVI. The announcement from the league was expected to come later this month; however, according to The Associated Press news broke Wednesday Clarkson has been chosen for the gig. It has actually been a really good year for past Idol contestants in terms of sports event appearances. Season 10’s Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina also sang the National Anthem during two World Series games in 2011. There was a little lyric flubbing that went on with those two, so I’m hoping Clarkson is a little more up to the task.
Still, if she does encounter a misstep, the pop singer will have be followed by some performances that should overshadow any little mistake. Following Clarkson’s National Anthem performance, country artists Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are expected to sing “America The Beautiful” during the pre-grame festivities, as well.
Super Bowl XLVI will air Sunday, February 5 on NBC.
