Susan Lucci Joins Marc Cherry's Drama Pilot Devious Maids
Susan Lucci’s no stranger to soapy drama, thanks to spending decades playing Erica Kane in All My Children. That experience may serve her well in her new role. The soap star has been tapped to play a role in Marc Cherry’s drama pilot Devious Maids.
Marc Cherry’s ABC primetime soap pilot Devious Maids is based on the Mexican format and follows four maids who work in wealthy households in Beverly Hills. Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes are on board to play the maids. And according to Deadline, Susan Lucci is signed on for a co-starring role. She’ll play Genevieve Delacourt, “a beautiful, wealthy woman who is gently crazy.” Gently crazy? Deadline goes on to say that her character was once able to attract “one powerful man after another” but her sexual status has changed, and the seduction of an Armenian pool boy apparently has a deep effect on her.
The story sounds very dramatic, which seems fitting for a pilot like this. Judging by the title of the pilot, it seems likely that the focus of the story will be on the maids, however it’s interesting to see that backstories of their employers is being drawn out. And Lucci’s casting does suggest that the character will be at least somewhat in the forefront of the project.
