TLC Snags Celebrities

By Kona Gallagher: 2008-04-24 10:51:36
TLC Snags Celebrities Lifetime may have won Project Runway, but TLC has Jennifer Lopez. The cable net has just announced that it will be adding two celebrity-centric shows to its lineup. The first is a reality show—ahem—docu-drama that follows Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony’s home life. The as-yet-untitled series, which Lopez will also executive-produce will "deliver a slice of [Lopez’s] life that audiences have never seen before, as she takes on her career and launches a new fragrance while trying to juggle her new responsibilities as a first time mom," according to a TLC press release.

Lopez isn’t giving out any more hints about what the series may be like (personally I’m hoping for a train wreck of Britney and Kevin: Chaotic proportions, though I doubt I’ll get it), saying only, "I am excited to be part of the TLC family. I’m looking forward to sharing this exciting journey together." Yawn. Also in the pipeline is a show from Live with Regis and Kelly host Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos.

There is even less information about this series. It could be anything from the story of their life to a husband-wife cooking show. What we do know is that Ripa and Consuelos go way back with TLC President Angela Shapiro-Mathes who used to be a higher-up at ABC, where the two stars used to work. Shapiro-Mathes says of their new working relationship, "I’ve known Kelly and Mark since the first day each of them joined All My Children. They reflect our audience, and the audience knows and loves them."

I have to admit, I’m a little dismayed that The Learning Channel is getting into the Celebreality game. As someone who was an avid watcher of both seasons of Rock of Love, I probably shouldn’t talk, but I still like my television compartmentalized. While I know way more than I should about Jennifer Lopez, I don’t think I need to “learn” about her. I enjoy Kelly Ripa and I’m sure whatever show she and her husband come up with will be entertaining. I just wish it was on VH1 or E!.
