TV Guide Readers Pick Their Favorite IdolsAuthor: Kelly West

Internet polls are hardly the most accurate way to predict anything but after having a look at TV Guide’s latest American Idol poll results, I’m thinking there’s a good chance the TV Guide readers’ opinions could reflect those of the people actually calling in and voting following the Idol performance episodes each week. If that’s the case, there are a couple of Idol-hopefuls who are going to have to pull off the performances of their lives if they want to make it into the top 12.
TV Guide polled their readers after last week’s elimination episode, asking them who their favorite male and female Idol is and here’s how it broke down: Female singers 27.6% Brooke White 26.2% Carly Smithson 20.7% Ramiele Malubay (last week's No. 1) 8.6% Syesha Mercado 6.3% Kristy Lee Cook 4.9 % Asia'h Epperson 3.6% Amanda Overmyer 2.0% Kady Malloy Male singers 63.6% David Archuleta 15.4% Michael Johns (last week's No. 1) 7.0% Jason Castro 5.6% David Hernandez 4.9% David Cook 1.4% Luke Menard 1.1% Danny Noriega 1.0% Chikezie I’m as unsurprised by David Archuleta’s whopping 63.6% as I am by the fact that sassy Danny Noriega and biker-chick Amanda Overmyer are towards the bottom of the list. I am a bit surprised that Carly Smithson isn’t in the #1 spot on the girls’ list. Nothing against Brooke White but I thought Smithson blew all of the other girls out of the water last week. Despite the fact that Idol has been pushing Smithson on us since the audition rounds, I still think she’s vocally stronger and more original than most of the other contestants. Regardless, if this poll is even close to accurate in terms of the popular opinion of the voting Idol watchers, I’m thinking that Smithson’s a lock for the top 12, as are Brooke White, Ramiele Malubay, David Archuleta, Michael Johns, and probably Jason Castro. For everyone else, the margins are close enough that one good performance (or one bad performance) could make all the difference. |
