With regards to American Idol, I don’t think it would be too presumptuous to say that there’s a good possibility that we could be seeing two David’s in the finale. Oh sure, it’s possible that America will eventually discover the amazing potential in one of the other contestants (Syesha, Carly) or that one of the other Idols’ devoted fanbase (Jason Castro) will go nuts with the voting and push their Idol into the final two. But as it stands now, based on what I can tell, it seems like Archuleta and Cook are winning this popularity contest.
I haven’t been in love with all of David Archuleta’s song choices and I don’t think he’s shown a lot of improvement in the competition. Don’t get me wrong, the kid’s got a great voice. I guess I just think he’s a little overrated at this point in the competition. David Cook on the other hand, only seems to be getting better and better each week. I was barely watching Cook in the earlier rounds of the competition but each week, in addition to trying new things with his hair, he also manages to demonstrate his ability to fit into different genres as well as choose songs that showcase his vocal talent. So needless to say, if it came down to the two Davids, I’d be rooting for Cook. I’m sure there are plenty of Archuleta fans who would disagree with me. Feel free to share your opinion on the Cook vs. Archuleta debate in the comment section below and be sure to vote in the poll!
Tonight’s episode of Idol featured the usual recapping of last night’s episode (including getting to relive that god-awful moment when Brooke restarted her song) and filler. Also, Season 3 of the UK talent competition show, The X Factor UK winner, Leona Lewis took the stage to perform a song and prove that she does really live up to her reputation of being awesome.
Here’s the breakdown for tonight’s contestants:
David Archuleta: SAFE
David Cook: SAFE
Brooke White: SAFE
Syesha Mercado: Bottom 2 - SAFE Carly Smithson: Bottom 2 - ELIMINATED
Jason Castro: SAFE
This is a load of horsepoop (pardon my G-rated French).
Carly Smithson is sent packing. While she wasn’t current my pick to win the whole thing, I really wanted to see her in the final three. I know Jason Castro’s popular (the girls seem to adore him) but his performance last night was less than his best (to put it mildly). He managed to avoid the bottom two though, as did Brooke. She hasn’t had a really stand-out performance in weeks and last night was definitely no exception. How did Carly go before either of them? Was Simon’s compliment really the kiss of death? Were Carly fans so sure she’d advance to the next round that they didn’t put in those extra votes or was it just her time to go? Leave a comment below.
Which David Would You Vote For?
IF both Davids were to make it to the final two, which one would you want to win?

I actually cried for a good ten minutes when Carly left. She is such an amazing singer, and she deserved to win, or at least make it to the top three. I hate this country.
This is the most rediculous season I have ever watched. Jason is not talented at all, why is he still here? Carly is amazing and should have stayed way longer than half of the people that are still there. I'm with the person earlier that said they were done. 13 year old girls should not be aloud to vote!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not who is the cutest contest...
I was so surprised that Carly was voted off because she had preformed so great yesterday. But then again, I like Brooke and I like Jason. I was a really big David Archuleta fan in the beginning but as the show has cut down to its finalists, I've come to like all of them. People say that David Archuleta has become 'boring' and needs to sing more 'upbeat songs' and I agree but that's really who he is and that's his strength. It's just like how David Cook are amazing at rock songs. So I think that both Davids are overrated but it's probably going to be them for the final two. However, after tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't. (and after Michael John's elimination... I love him!)
I am so done watching this show. The best singers always get the boot. They need to take the vote out of the american publics hands. It's time to rethink how this show works. Hopefully everyone will feel the same and it will lose its ratings.
ARE YOU KIDDING, Brooke has sucked for the last three weeks, and whats more is she knows it. And Jason would make a great SONGS FOR THE NURSERY CD, but a pop artist, come on!!!! It is to bad that it's about popularity, but I don't feel to bad for Carly, can you say DAUGHTRY!!
This week was totally off the scale. The bottom 2 should have been Brooke and Jason statistically. I am surely disappointed about the results. I hope America votes for the real talent and pick David Archuleta, due to his young age and skill for instruments and his incredible voice. Hands Down!
This was a spoiler for me since I live on the West Coast and the show won't air for 6 more minutes but I am one of those strange individuals who love really loves Jason Castro if only because he is just so NOT FAZED by this whole trip. Who said he looks like a Muppet? I believe it was some columnist with the Chicago Tribune. To truly appreciate Jason, you have to download the studio recordings. I have them all. Even "I Don't Wanna Cry" was really special.
That being said, I love Jason to pieces but I'm not insane. David Cook is devatastingly talented and last night was the frosting on the cake for me. He is simply flawless and the Daughtry debaucle cannot be repeated so I expect he will win the whole enchilada.
David Archuleta...very cute in a Mickey Mouse Club sort of way, great voice...zero charisma for anyone over 16...which I definitely am.
Sayesha found her groove at last. She was definitely in her element this week and not trying to be anyone else for once. And Brooke is darling but I really feared that her number was up. But truth be told, I love her voice.
Anyway, it's sort of ironic that Carly finally ran out of luck given that she did a relatively respectable job last night...I thought the "out of sync" thing was intentional....but if Michael Johns could be eliminated...I can't mourn Carly's elimination.
Anyway, thanks for saving me from sweating for Jason. I am just not read to say good-bye to his sweet self. But no doubt in my mind...David Cook is UNSTOPPABLE!!!!
Why the hell is Brooke still there? She screwed up at the piano weeks ago and got away with it. This week she completely stopped singing and started over. Each week with her is the same old same old style and voice with no improvement. She should have been booted weeks ago! Jason Castro, as cute as he is, is not what I'd want in an 'idol'. It's a travesty to lose Michael Johns and Carly because the teenyboppers are voting for Jason. Carly's performance was awesome. The night's two should have been Brooke and Jason. I tore around the house cursing AMerican Idol. This sucks!
"I hate this country." Um, a little dramatic much, Helena?
All of the contestants suck this year, including Carly. And frankly, the fact that she had an abysmally-selling record prior to being a contestant on AI just goes to show how truly "forgettable" and mediocre she is. Good riddance. And the primary reason why I will not be watching Idol again is because of the ridiculous number of "plants" and contestants with connections to the music industry that Idol included this season - the whole POINT of the show was that they were supposed to discover "undiscovered" talent - none of these contestants fit the bill, as a great number of them have had FAILED RECORD DEALS in the past (Kristy Lee Cook, Carly, Brook, Micheal Johns; don't forget that Syesha is an actress with connections; Joanne, who was the first off in the top 24, was a plus-size model with connections to the industry; David A. and his Star Search connection). This means that they are not "undiscovered" talent that didn't have a fair shot - they are merely mediocre performers that are pretty unmarketable.
Idol seems to go for drippy, cliched 'here she comes Miss America' pagaent-type songs and it was waaaay too painful being forced to listen to every miserable song ALL THE WAY THROUGH just to vote for one. It also seems totally not credible to us that the 19 Entertainment judges actually listened to all 40,000 songs submitted, no less listened to the top 20 they picked ALL THE WAY THROUGH either, BUT because they had a little edgier show this year with rockers in the line-up, we took a chance and wrote and entered an edgy, dynamic rock song that would make a great single and commercial hit...did it make the top 20? NOPE...guess 19 Entertainment made enough money on the 40,000 $10 song submissions they got, so maybe they don't need a hit song to sell, but you can check out our song BABY LET's GO for yourselves on our myspace profile at: go to youtube.com/watch?v=bFKQ1PD8lrs or songwriters2.com
Hey Charlene- Sorry hon but I am also not sixteen, quite a bit beyond, and to be honest, I think David A. is ridiculously talented and very HOT!!!! Since he is not 18 yet I'll leave it at that, but please... speak for yourself when you say he has no charisma.. He doesn't even mean to and the kid oozes sex appeal. He is definitely NOT Disney material either.. way too good for that. Go David A.!

Michael Johns and now Carly Simon gone? Me, too. No more "American Idol" for this kid. What a popularity contest!
